While we patiently await the arrival of our baby girl, we are also anxiously awaiting the arrival of our godson who will be arriving from Ethiopia in the near future. Becky (my oldest sister) and her husband, Andrew, are in the process of adopting a baby boy. They just found out they are 12th on the list for a 6 month-and-under boy so we hope to hear some good news soon.
It has been almost a year that Becky announced her intention to adopt from Ethiopia, and today, while they wait on the referral, we know that some special child who has been born, is being born, or will be born soon is going to be their son one day. He is such a huge part of our lives already, and we cannot wait until the day we get to meet him.
As a soon-to-be parent, we already have lots of great hopes and dreams for our child. While she will certainly be the one to fulfill those dreams, we will be responsible for guiding her in the right direction. There will be many lessons along the way, and I am so proud that one of her first lessons will be learning to see through color. With the excitement surrounding the recent election, I am reminded of the importance of equality. It will be our goal as parents to teach our children not to discriminate among gender, race or religion. While Becky and Andrew will be helping a child in need, he will be greatly enriching all our lives so much more. We will become better people by his presence alone.
We are so proud of Becky and Andrew for their decision to adopt. In our eyes, this is one of the most admirable things a couple can do - to make a difference in the life of a child. They will be great parents, and we are thrilled to accept their special son into our family.
So as much as we look forward to posting about our new baby, we are equally excited to post news on the arrival of our nephew. Stay tuned for more or check out Becky's blog for more information on their journey!
